Co-Owner and Chief Financial Officer of American Institute of Alternative Medicine (AIAM) Helen H Yee will present, promote and autograph her book, I BELONG HERE at the New Americans Book Fair, NABF on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, 5590 Karl Road, Columbus, Ohio beginning at 12pm.

I Belong Here: The life I was born for in America, a non-fiction work, is a story of “my awkward child immigrant self-coming to America and experiencing bullying and racism, but through my shorts I discovered my confidence and self-worth as well as developing math skills and friendships along the way,” said Helen H. Yee.

“The virtues and abilities I’ve learned allowed me to navigate many obstacles and challenges in my world both personally and in business. In the process of life ‘s challenges, conflicts gave me courage to feel comfortable in my own skin, to thrive successfully, as well as taking a seat at the table in my community, representing my viewpoints and embracing my Asian heritage.”

Helen Yee co-founded the American Institute of Alternative Medicine in 1990. The school offers accredited programs in acupuncture, massage therapy, and nursing, as well as a student and professional clinic.

She is an instructor of Tai Chi and Qi Gong at various martial arts and health seminars in the US and abroad.

Helen holds a 4th degree blackbelt in TKD and competed on the US Tae Kwon Do team. Helen was a 1988 US Olympic Alternate.

In addition to her work at AIAM, Helen serves on the Accreditation Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) site visit team for the evaluation of acupuncture schools across the country, is an Executive Board member for the Asian American Commerce Group (AACG).

She has also served as President on the Board for the Pacific Association of Women Martial Arts, Past Vice President for Stonewall Columbus, an LGBTQ organization, a Co-founding member of the Ohio Progressive Asian Woman’s Leadership organization, (OPAWL), and Board member for State of the Arts Theatre Company.

Helen currently serves on the Columbus Community Relations as a Commissioner, a Board member on the Lesbians benefitting the Arts-Ohio lesbian festival (LBA/OLF).

She has been recognized for her achievements by The International Role Model Magazine Inc., featured in 2019 as Columbus CEO spotlight for small businesses and also awarded the 2018 Business Entrepreneurial leadership award by the Asian American Commerce Group.

Awarded the “30+ years of training and dedication “by the association of women martial arts instructors and was inducted into the Bruce Lee martial arts legend hall of honor in 2015.

Self-taught bass player, Helen started an all-female rock band that plays locally at many festivals and local venues.

Here time during the pandemic allowed her time to write and publish her Memoir: I BELONG HERE.
