Introduction
In a time when many young people are searching for identity, direction, and purpose, Becoming an Authentic Leader offers a timely and transformative message: leadership does not begin with a title—it begins within.
Written by Columbus-based educator and community leader Mhilu A. Kiluwasha, this book is both a personal reflection and a practical guide that helps individuals discover who they are, develop strong character, and lead others with authenticity and purpose.
Rooted in real-life experiences and a deep commitment to serving others, this work speaks especially to diaspora youth and emerging leaders navigating the complexities of identity, culture, and belonging.
About the Book
Becoming an Authentic Leader challenges traditional views of leadership by shifting the focus from external recognition to internal transformation.
Rather than asking, “How do I become a leader?” the book invites readers to ask a deeper question:
“Who am I becoming?”
Structured in three progressive parts, the book guides readers through a leadership journey:
- Part I — Identity and Foundation: Understanding who you are and where leadership begins
- Part II — Growth and Development: Building character, discipline, and leadership habits
- Part III — Influence and Legacy: Leading others through service, impact, and multiplication
Each chapter builds on the idea that authentic leadership is not about status, but about self-awareness, integrity, and the ability to add value to others.
